1. What Is A Neighbourhood Warden?

We are a specially trained and friendly team, who will work with you to make a difference in your neighbourhood. We are good listeners and are always happy to stop and hear your concerns or complaints. We can help to raise them with the right people to get things done.

We have a distinctive green and black uniform, which has our logo on. We will always carry an identity badge which you can ask to see at any time.

3. What does a Neighbourhood Warden do?

  • We carry out regular patrols in your neighbourhood and can be your "eyes and ears"
  • We will report any suspicious or criminal behaviour to the Police
  • We offer practical home safety advice
  • We give support to victims of crime
  • We will work with you and with the other agencies in your area to sort out problems or issues which affect your enjoyment of your home, especially nuisance or anti-social behaviour
  • We keep an eye on problems such as vandalism, graffiti, rubbish or abandoned cars and report the issue to the right department or team
  • We try to involve young people in positive activities such as sports and fun days or litter picking to help them feel a part of the community
  • We keep an eye on vulnerable residents

4. Can you arrest people?

No, but we are accredited under the West Mercia Police Community Safety Scheme which provides us with additional powers including:

  • Confiscating alcohol in designated places
  • Confiscating alcohol from young people
  • Confiscate tobacco from young people
  • Remove abandoned vehicles
  • Being able to request name and addresses from any person who has been involved in an offence which has caused injury, alarm or distress or who had behaved in an anti-social way. We were the first in the country to have been given the opportunity to take such an important step in fighting crime

5. Can you help with crime prevention?

Yes. We work closely with the Police, Neighbourhood Watch Groups and community groups and meet with them regularly to talk about current issues of concern. We can give advice about how to make your home and property more secure including property marking or home safety checks. We also carry out visits to potentially vulnerable residents such as older people or people living alone. Because we are part of the Wyre Forest Community Safety Partnership, we always have up to date information about extra help available such as providing vulnerable households with additional security locks for doors and windows.
