Services for older people and people with disabilities

Extra Support

We aim to provide a safe and secure environment for older people and people who need extra support.

We offer a number of services to help you stay in your home or, if you prefer, accommodation designed to make life a little easier and more secure for you.

If you or someone in your household is an older person, is vulnerable, has a disability or has difficulty carrying out everyday tasks, we can offer help in many cases. If we cannot help, we will try to tell you about other organisations that may be able to.

To help you keep your independence, we can arrange for you to have a 24-hour helpline installed called a Telecare alarm. Your home could be adapted to meet your needs or you could move to more suitable accommodation. We can also help with decorating and insulating your home.

To help you stay in your home, we will:

  • offer help and advice about the services available
  • offer a Telecare alarm service 24 hours a day, all year round
  • provide you with a flexible home-visiting service
  • look at ways of changing things in your home to make you more independent
  • tell you about other agencies that could help and provide all the help we can

If you want to move to more suitable accommodation, we will:

  • help you fill in an application form
  • tell you what sort of accommodation is available and where
  • tell you which HomeChoice Plus 'band' you are in
